Faceless channel niches: the twentyfold RPM spread
Finance pays $10-15 per thousand views and sleep music pays $0.50-2.50 with worse competition. Plus what YouTube's inauthentic content policy actually prohibits.
The appeal of a faceless channel is that you never film yourself. The economics of one are decided almost entirely by niche, because the rate per thousand monetised views varies by a factor of twenty between topics that take the same effort to produce.
The rates
- Personal finance and investing: $10 to $15 RPM, the most reliable high band.
- B2B and SaaS: $9 to $14. Legal explainers: $9 to $12. Education: $9 to $14.
- Animated storytelling and true crime: $8 to $13, with production costs of $50 to $300 per video.
- Finance, B2B software and AI tutorials reach $14 to $38 at the top of the market.
- Sleep music, ASMR and scary stories: $0.50 to $2.50, against the heaviest competition on the platform.
What the July 2025 policy changed
On 15 July 2025 YouTube renamed its repetitious content policy to inauthentic content. The targets are mass-produced templated videos, image slideshows with minimal commentary, and readings of material you did not create. YouTube's own spokesperson described it as a minor update, and it did not ban AI channels. Channels using AI as a tool inside a process that still contains human judgement remain monetisable.
Choosing on purpose
- Compare rates, not view counts. A thousand finance views are worth twenty thousand music views.
- Subtract production cost. Animation and true crime carry real per-episode expense.
- Be honest about subject access. Legal and B2B niches need someone who understands the material.
- Treat cheap niches as crowded by definition: free entry is what makes them crowded.
- Commit to a series format rather than isolated uploads, because repeatability is what a faceless channel sells.
Where Monty fits
Monty makes the format repeatable: one take in, then cuts, captions synced to speech, music placed under the voice, b-roll by meaning, cleaned audio, versions per platform, and publishing to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok and Telegram. The script and the substance stay yours, which is the part that separates a monetisable channel from a templated feed.
